Hi guys, Laura here! 🙂

So, you want to start a blog? There are a couple of things you should know before you begin your blogging journey!

Starting a Blog

1. BACK UP YOUR BLOG

I wasn’t going to include this tip originally but yesterday I managed to lose our entire blog! The blog you are looking at today is actually our second design. When starting the first blog, we didn’t know what we were doing. I didn’t know we had to back up our blog. Rookie mistake!! All hosting sites are different so make sure you find out the best way to back up your site depending on who is hosting it.

2. Write about something you’re passionate about

Make sure your blog/niche is something you actually care and are passionate about. It also helps if you have a wide knowledge of what you’re writing about. If your blog is about something you don’t care about, it will reflect in your posts and your readers will lose interest and so will you!

3. Don’t waste your time with free hosting sites

If you’re serious about blogging then you want a reliable, good quality hosting site. You also need to spend a bit of money (not much, don’t worry!). Our blogging site is only $3.75 a month, I pay more than that for lunch! It is the most popular hosting site for bloggers. A lot of the successful bloggers use this site, I can’t recommend it enough. It’s called Bluehost. If you follow the link below you will benefit from a free domain, free site builders, a WordPress install and 24/7 support from their Tech Support.

4. Expand your knowledge

Blogging isn’t easy. There are lots of lessons you will learn along the way (like writing over your blog without backing it up! EUGH!). It is worth watching tutorials on Youtube, take some courses, download some ebooks. It’s also a good idea to look at successful blogs to get some inspiration, see how they promote themselves, how they lay out their blog, how they get subscribers etc. It is also important to have a basic knowledge of taking good pictures, editing those pictures, shooting videos, editing those videos, writing, scheduling.

5. Get your blog out there!

There is no point in just publishing your blog and expecting people to find it, you have to share it. Send it to your friends and family, post it on social media, ask people on Facebook groups to have a look and tell you what they think. After a little while it may be worth choosing a social media platform and sticking to that. A lot of bloggers use Pinterest to get traffic.

So, I hope this helped you guys! Please share your blogs in the comments if you have one, I’d love to check it out. Also if you have any questions please post them in the comments or check out our Contact Page!

See you soon! xoxo
